Write a book description that sells

2027-07-21

Your description is your sales page. A clear one does the selling while you sleep.

The three-beat formula

Hook the reader in the first line, introduce the protagonist and the stakes, then end on the question that makes them turn the page: Will they make it? Short paragraphs, no spoilers, one emotional promise.

Test it against live listings

Read the descriptions that win on OptRead — browse free and discounted listings in your genre and note what the top ones do in their first two lines. Borrow the structure, not the words.

A great description is worth more than a great cover. Write it like a blurb, not a synopsis.
