Currency money (invented 2,600 years ago) changed what it means to be human. It altered our behaviour, skewed our values, transformed our societies. We accepted these mutations because money provided more benefits than drawbacks. But, as we make our way through the 21st century, monetary dependence is beginning to do more harm than good. Money once increased human activity; economic arguments now make us redundant. Initially, money built communities; now it’s dividing them. For centuries, money helped us live more secure lives; for many today, moolah is the essence of insecurity. Our economic model is on its last legs. Cash is no longer making us healthier. The time has come to amend this Bronze Age technology. Moneymorphoses charts how humanity has changed since prehistoric times. It focuses on human behaviour during consecutive economic eras: the gift economy, commodity money, currency money. This study reveals lost, instinctive ways of being that improved health and fulfilment. Finally, it suggests a way to restore these beneficial behaviours.
