The Quarterback Equation

Terry “The Howitzer” Travane can read a defense in seconds, throw with either arm, and control almost every variable on a football field. Valeri Tartelli is the one variable he never anticipated. When Terry’s younger brother begins struggling in freshman algebra, Terry expects the boy’s no-nonsense math teacher to welcome his help. Instead, Valeri challenges his methods, rejects his attempts to solve every problem for everyone, and remains thoroughly unimpressed by his fame. Terry should find her infuriating. He finds her irresistible. As tutoring sessions become foundation meetings—and professional respect becomes something far more personal—Terry begins learning that protecting the people he loves does not mean controlling their choices. Valeri begins to believe that accepting help does not require surrendering her independence. But when their relationship places Valeri’s reputation and new career opportunity under public scrutiny, attraction is no longer the most difficult part of the equation. To build a future together, Terry must stop arranging the answer—and trust Valeri to choose it with him.
