The Veiled Dragon (House Drakenmoor Chronicles Book 1)

Axel Freeman has spent fourteen years as an ordinary farm boy, unaware that fire cannot burn him — and that his golden eyes mark him as something far more dangerous than human. When a mysterious storm awakens impossible abilities and summons him to the Grand Celestine Academy, Axel learns the truth: he is Valen, the dragon prince of House Drakenmoor, heir to a throne soaked in blood and betrayal. His family was slaughtered. His identity was buried by desperate magic. And the enemies who destroyed House Drakenmoor are still searching for the one prince who escaped. Surviving the Academy's brutal trials — the Maze of Winds, the Beast Hunt, the Dueling Arena — means mastering a draconic power he barely understands while keeping his true name hidden from those who would use him as a weapon or destroy him as a threat. But survival alone won't be enough. An ancient plague called Scale-Rot is spreading through the realm, turning victims to stone from the inside out. The Five Seals that contain this corruption are breaking, one by one. And the Academy's own Headmaster serves masters far darker than any student suspects. Valen must choose: remain hidden and safe, or embrace the fire within and become the dragon his bloodline demands. Because the horizon is burning, and destiny doesn't wait for a boy to be ready.
