Vickrant - The Winner Within
Available for 3 days. Available until 10/18/2026.
THE WINNER WITHIN is the extraordinary true story of Vickrant, a young man
whose life was transformed by a catastrophic brain injury—and of the family, friends,
medical teams and community who refused to give up on him.
From childhood, Vickrant was a disciplined, intelligent and sports-loving boy with a
deep fascination for the Armed Forces. His journey took him from riding and
leadership at RIMC Dehradun to the National Defence Academy, where he secured
All India Rank 4 in the NDA examination and began building the career he had
dreamed of.
Then came October 2018.
Following an earlier documented head injury during boxing in August, Vickrant
suffered a devastating second head injury during a football match at NDA. He
underwent emergency brain surgery and entered a prolonged and uncertain battle
for survival. His medical journey included major neurosurgery, ventilation,
tracheostomy, PEG feeding and a long period of rehabilitation.
For his parents, however, the journey was not measured in medical terminology. It
was measured in tiny victories: a response, recognition, sitting independently,
standing, taking a step, eating, speaking and eventually walking again.
The book is also a story of family resilience. While Vickrant fought to rebuild his life,
his younger brother Siddhant continued his own difficult journey, ultimately
achieving 99 percentile in JEE Main and securing Computer Science at IIIT Jabalpur.
Around them stood an extraordinary network of relatives, friends, course mates,
Army colleagues, doctors, nurses, therapists and well-wishers.
Perhaps the most powerful moment comes when Vickrant, after the family had
struggled with unanswered questions about what had happened, simply tells his
father: “Papa, forgive and forget.”
Those words changed the direction of the family’s journey. Forgiveness did not mean
denying the pain of the past. It meant refusing to allow that pain to control the future.
THE WINNER WITHIN is not a promise of miraculous recovery. It is a reminder that
recovery is built one small victory at a time, that identity is greater than diagnosis,
and that hope can survive even the darkest circumstances.Years later, Vickrant is participating in activities, travelling, trekking and enjoying
life again. At Lagech in Himachal Pradesh in September 2025, he trekked with
friends and participated almost independently—a moment his family saw not simply
as rehabilitation, but as a return to life.
This is ultimately a book about courage, forgiveness, family, friendship, dignity and
hope—and about discovering that sometimes the greatest victory is not returning to
the person you once were, but finding the strength to move forward as the person you
have become.
Because the real winner is not always the one who never falls.
Sometimes, the winner is the one who finds the strength to rise again.
