A Valley of Echoes (The Echoes Cycle Book 1)

In the 19th century, Rosemarie Donohue arrives in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, determined to rebuild her life in a new corner of the United States. The valley greets her with suspicion and quiet resistance, but also with unexpected kindness. As she opens a small shop and begins forming fragile ties within the community—especially with Moran, a midwife carrying quiet mysteries of her own, and Michael, Moran’s hardworking son—Rosemarie begins to imagine a future she never thought possible. Everything changes when she receives an impossible invitation from St. Brigid: become the next Calleg, a healer bound to five centuries of service. Accepting the mantle would mean embracing a life of faith and sacrifice—and outliving everyone she loves. Refusing it would mean turning away from a calling she feels in her bones. Brigid gives her three days to decide. Shaken by the choice before her, Rosemarie confides first in Moran and then in Michael. But Michael’s steady presence only deepens her anguish as she confronts what accepting the calling could mean: a lifetime devoted to healing at the cost of eventually losing everyone she holds dear. A Valley of Echoes is a spirituality fiction novel that blends the historical fiction genre with elements of religious fiction, exploring religion and spirituality through a deeply personal story of love, healing, faith, and sacrifice across generations. Perfect for readers of Diana Gabaldon, Geraldine Brooks, and Anthony Doerr, it is a story where the past breathes, the land remembers, and ordinary people are transformed by extraordinary callings.
